itunes help post

Hey. Jack reminded me to post a 'how to submit your cd to cddb' tutorial. It's late and I am tired but here it is. I'll be brief.

1. Okay. Create a playlist. Place all of your songs into it. Name your playlist the title you'd like your cd to be. Be sure to do the same in the tracks column under ALBUM. Keep all the artist names and song titles as is (double check for typos and punctuation if you'd like, especially if you got stuff online). Select your playlist, click burn.

Great. You've burned your first cd. Now, in the SOURCE column to your left a cd icon and the title of your cd should appear. Select it so that a blue band highlights it. See JPEG (click to enlarge).

2. Super. Now above your itunes window select the drop down menu under ADVANCED. It's just a word Jack, there is nothing advanced about it. From that drop down menu select SUBMIT CD TRACK NAMES, please see JPEG (click to enlarge).

3. Fucking A. A pop up window appears. Be sure to fill out all the fields. Under ARTIST just put your name. Be sure to check off the box next to COMPILATION. Click OK, see JPEG (click to enlarge).

Now. Since itunes burnt your cd, even if you did not submit your cd to CDDB (compact disc data base) it would still display all the tracks you entered. So to truly test it out take it over to another mac with an internet connection and see if it recognizes it, or just hope for the best.

RANDOM TIPS
1. Select your track. Once it is highlighted press your apple key followed by the letter 'i' button (traditionally in all apps this will display any info on the file you selected). Once in there you can increase the volume of a track and/or change the start/end time of a song. Just be careful - you can never properly hear the changes you made on your computer speakers so burn a test cd first and play it on your stereo. You can really fuck shit up kids.
2. Import your tracks as mp3's prior to burning. AAC may sound slightly better but takes up more room.
3. If you bought tracks off of itunes and are limited to the number of burns just burn a cd of that track(s) then re import it and switch the album name before doing so, that is in essence the same as creating a new file so any proprietary bullshit from apple won't be on there.

Sorry about any typos, it's late.

Thanks,

Dr.D/JD
